Nicki noticed a sign during a recent visit to the gym and it made her think about how we can use words to influence people.
Whilst giving the gruelling stairmaster a run for its money, I noticed a sign on the wall next to me which read ‘Cleaning up your sweat when you’ve finished is a great way to burn calories’. I thought this was a thoughtful, positive and humorous way to encourage people to clean up after themselves and makes a refreshing change from the usual ‘don’t forget to wipe up your sweat’ message that you would normally find at gyms.
It got me thinking of other situations where an instruction can be made more fun and effective than simply being told what to do. I’m certain the following, rather daring example works because of the touch of cheeky humour:
